Plywood Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average plywood import price amounted to $470 per cubic meter, surging by 21% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible decrease. The import price peaked at $688 per cubic meter in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Cambodia ($1,349 per cubic meter), while the price for Spain ($69.8 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plywood Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average plywood export price stood at $439 per cubic meter in August 2023, falling by -3.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2023 an increase of 9.7% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $484 per cubic meter in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($566 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($340 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Dominican Republic (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Plywood Imports in the United States
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of plywood decreased by -7.4% to 5.8M cubic meters in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 6.2M cubic meters, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, plywood imports reduced to $3.8B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +42.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 52%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $4.1B, and then declined in the following year.

Plywood Exports in the United States
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of plywood decreased by -8.1% to 706K cubic meters in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +55.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 768K cubic meters, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, plywood exports contracted to $325M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +42.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 63% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $372M, and then contracted in the following year.
