Plywood Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022
In March 2022, the average plywood export price amounted to $802 per cubic meter, waning by -4.7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2021 when the average export price increased by 7.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $850 per cubic meter in December 2021; however, from January 2022 to March 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was Australia ($981 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($474 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plywood Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022
In March 2022, the average plywood import price amounted to $693 per cubic meter, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2021 when the average import price increased by 24% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $770 per cubic meter. From May 2021 to March 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($2,729 per cubic meter), while the price for Singapore ($303 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Plywood Exports in Indonesia
In 2022, shipments abroad of plywood decreased by -39.8% to 2.1M cubic meters for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 17%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 3.5M cubic meters, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, plywood exports reduced notably to $1.8B in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +9.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.5B, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Plywood Imports in Indonesia
In 2022, the amount of plywood imported into Indonesia was estimated at 80K cubic meters, increasing by 12% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked at 90K cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, plywood imports rose significantly to $52M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
