Plywood Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average plywood import price amounted to $776 per cubic meter, shrinking by -6.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 19% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,019 per cubic meter in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($998 per cubic meter), while the price for Lao People's Democratic Republic ($390 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Plywood Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023
In July 2023, the average plywood export price amounted to $364 per cubic meter, surging by 81% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 222% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in July 2023.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($1,252 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to New Zealand amounted to $334 per cubic meter.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+3.7%).
Plywood Imports in Australia
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of plywood decreased by -17.3% to 580K cubic meters in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 702K cubic meters in 2021, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, plywood imports contracted modestly to $486M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 51%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $508M, and then declined slightly in the following year.
