Mexico (1.8M tons) and the United States (1.5M tons) represented the largest importers of plastic packaging in 2022, accounting for approx. 13% and 11% of total imports, respectively. Germany (927K tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 6.6% share, followed by the Netherlands (4.5%). The following importers - France (616K tons), Japan (607K tons), Belgium (603K tons), Spain (524K tons), the UK (497K tons), Canada (384K tons), Italy (297K tons), Australia (272K tons) and Poland (259K tons) - together made up 29% of total imports.

In value terms, the United States ($6.4B) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic packaging worldwide, comprising 14% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($2.9B), with a 6.5% share of global imports. It was followed by Mexico, with a 5.1% share.
