Pistachio Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average pistachio import price stood at $8,229 per ton in December 2021, growing by 21% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2021 when the average import price increased by 518% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $8,776 per ton. From July 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were China ($9,590 per ton) and the United Arab Emirates ($9,201 per ton), while the price for Iran ($6,750 per ton) and the United States ($8,014 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Pistachio Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average pistachio export price amounted to $7,821 per ton, which is down by -15.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2021 when the average export price increased by 3,749% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $12,364 per ton in September 2021; however, from October 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to 0.0% per month.
Pistachio Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, approx. 1.4K tons of pistachios were imported into Malaysia; approximately reflecting 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, pistachio imports shrank significantly to $8M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +15.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 40% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $11M, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
