Spain remains the largest peach and nectarine exporter worldwide, with a share of 34% in terms of the global volume. In 2020, the harvest was damaged by frosts, which led to a reduction of supplies. Export prices thus ramped up and are to remain high until yields stabilize. Despite this, Spain's position on the key foreign markets in Germany and France remained secure. The year 2021 remains uneven in terms of future yield, which strengthens the risk that buyers will seek cheaper alternatives.
In October 2022, the apricot price amounted to $1,740 per ton (FOB, Spain), with a decrease of -8.3% against the previous month.
Apricot exports from Spain increased to $170M thanks to rising demand from Italy and France, despite rising export prices. Export to other major destinations - Germany and the UK - failed to catch up with the figures of the previous year. Germany, France and Italy remain the major importers of Spanish apricots in 2020.
In June 2023, the price of Sour Cherry reached $4,848 per ton (FOB, Spain), showing a 4.6% increase compared to the previous month.
In August 2022, the berry price stood at $3,636 per ton (FOB, Spain), shrinking by -2.6% against the previous month.
Global demand for peaches and nectarines is on the rise, with market consumption expected to increase over the next seven years.
