Onion and Shallot Price in the Philippines (CIF) - 2023
The average onion and shallot import price stood at $935 per ton in July 2023, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, enjoyed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of less than 0.1% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $935 per ton in June 2023, and then shrank in the following month.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for China.
From January 2023 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for China amounted to +4.4% per month.

The average onion and shallot export price stood at $570 per ton in 2022, rising by 7.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 43%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $944 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($570 per ton), while the average price for exports to Singapore totaled $570 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Onion and Shallot Imports in the Philippines
In 2022, purchases abroad of onion and shallot decreased by -74.8% to 7.1K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 143% against the previous year.
