Onion and Shallot Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
The average onion and shallot import price stood at $289 per ton in January 2022, growing by 21% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2021 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $552 per ton in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to January 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,097 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($93.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average onion and shallot export price stood at $128 per ton in January 2022, falling by -16.6% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2021 an increase of 49% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $188 per ton in March 2021; however, from April 2021 to January 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($180 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mongolia ($90.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Onion and Shallot Imports in Russia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of onion and shallot decreased by -7.1% to 217K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 280K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, onion and shallot imports declined to $66M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $108M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
