Onion and Shallot Price in Austria (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average onion and shallot export price amounted to $838 per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 28% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,035 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Romania ($2,327 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovakia ($501 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+18.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Price in Austria (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average onion and shallot import price amounted to $1,462 per ton, with an increase of 7.1% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated tangible growth from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, onion and shallot import price increased by +13.4% against June 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 44% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $2,001 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($2,965 per ton), while the price for Moldova ($343 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Onion and Shallot Exports in Austria
For the fourth year in a row, Austria recorded growth in overseas shipments of onion and shallot, which increased by 0.1% to 76K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 20%.
