Olive Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
The average olive import price stood at $2,099 per ton in August 2023, increasing by 6.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,105 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to August 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Greece ($2,150 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,844 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Olive Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
The average olive export price stood at $5,312 per ton in October 2023, with an increase of 11% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated a modest expansion from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, olive export price increased by +13.4% against July 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 134% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $6,101 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to October 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($14,616 per ton), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($3,713 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Olive Imports in Italy
In 2022, olive imports into Italy shrank notably to 9.7K tons, reducing by -21.6% compared with the year before. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 147%.
In value terms, olive imports declined rapidly to $19M in 2022. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 184%.
