The country with the largest volume of non-alloy steel h-sections production was China (7.3M tons), accounting for 26% of total volume. Moreover, non-alloy steel h-sections production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, India (2.9M tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (1.9M tons), with a 6.9% share.
In China, non-alloy steel h-sections production expanded at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: India (+1.5% per year) and the United States (+0.4% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 52% against the previous year. Canada (566K tons), South Korea (443K tons), Germany (389K tons), the Netherlands (336K tons), the Philippines (329K tons), the United States (276K tons), Hong Kong SAR (249K tons), Turkey (225K tons), France (195K tons), Italy (178K tons), Belgium (159K tons) and the UK (154K tons) represented roughly 59% of total imports in 2022. Poland (115K tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

In value terms, the largest non-alloy steel h-sections importing markets worldwide were Canada ($685M), Germany ($459M) and the Netherlands ($402M), together comprising 24% of global imports.
