The average mica; waste export price stood at $618 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $621 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($934 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($348 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average mica; waste import price amounted to $452 per ton, surging by 3.2% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 77%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,780 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for India amounted to -8.7% per year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of mica; wastes were finally on the rise to reach 78 tons after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a significant decline.

In value terms, mica; waste exports skyrocketed to $48K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, faced a sharp descent.

Mica; Waste Imports in Sri Lanka

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of mica; wastes decreased by -3.1% to 62 kg in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 64 kg, and then declined modestly in the following year.

In value terms, mica; waste imports stood at $28 in 2022. In general, imports saw a pronounced reduction. The smallest decline of -3.3% was in 2020.
