Measuring Instrument Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average measuring instrument import price amounted to $14.4 per unit, picking up by 2.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2023 an increase of 8.8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $15.0 per unit in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($37.9 per unit), while the price for China ($7.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Measuring Instrument Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average measuring instrument export price stood at $92.9 per unit in August 2023, jumping by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $94.3 per unit in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($209 per unit), while the average price for exports to Canada ($44.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Measuring Instrument Imports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in overseas purchases of instruments and related products for measuring, displaying, and controlling industrial process variables, which increased by 3.6% to 603M units in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +55.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, measuring instrument imports expanded rapidly to $8.2B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 9.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
