Magnesium Price in the United States (CIF) - 2022

The average magnesium import price stood at $6,207 per ton in 2022, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, magnesium import price increased by +68.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 26% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Israel ($14,157 per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($2,731 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+15.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Magnesium Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022

The average magnesium export price stood at $4,965 per ton in 2022, surging by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($80,123 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($3,834 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+41.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Magnesium Imports in the United States

In 2022, imports of magnesium into the United States skyrocketed to 98K tons, rising by 322% against the previous year. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, magnesium imports soared to $608M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
