Linseed Price in Italy (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average linseed import price amounted to $591 per ton, falling by -7.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 5.7% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $945 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Romania ($1,138 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($490 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Linseed Price in Italy (FOB) - 2023
In August 2023, the average linseed export price amounted to $2,590 per ton, which is down by -6.7% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 when the average export price increased by 63% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,839 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($5,032 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($981 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Linseed Imports in Italy
In 2022, supplies from abroad of linseed decreased by -9.3% to 32K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 44K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, linseed imports amounted to $29M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.9% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
