Greasy Wool Price in Australia (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average greasy wool export price amounted to $5,385 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 8.5% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,998 per ton. From April 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($9,580 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($3,338 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Czech Republic (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In September 2023, the average greasy wool import price amounted to $5,762 per ton, waning by -20.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 409% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $7,532 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for New Zealand.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for New Zealand amounted to -0.8% per month.
Greasy Wool Exports in Australia
