This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption recorded a slight setback. Global consumption peaked at $1.1B in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Consumption By Country

The United States (218K tons) remains the largest grape juice (single strength) consuming country worldwide, accounting for 27% of total volume. Moreover, grape juice (single strength) consumption in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, Argentina (103K tons), twofold. Spain (90K tons) ranked third in terms of total consumption with an 11% share.

In the United States, grape juice (single strength) consumption contracted by an average annual rate of -2.9% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of consumption growth: Argentina (-3.1% per year) and Spain (-2.2% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($398M) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was held by Brazil ($99M). It was followed by Argentina.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Brazil (-3.7% per year) and Argentina (-3.8% per year).

The countries with the highest levels of grape juice (single strength) per capita consumption in 2022 were Chile (2.6 kg per person), Argentina (2.2 kg per person) and Israel (2.1 kg per person).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3.5%. Global production peaked at 991K tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) production shrank modestly to $966M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the production volume increased by 53% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $1.1B. From 2017 to 2022, global production growth remained at a lower figure.

Production By Country

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2022 were the United States (224K tons), Italy (162K tons) and Spain (150K tons), with a combined 62% share of global production. Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Iran lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the main producing countries, was attained by Iran (with a CAGR of +8.1%), while production for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the production figures.

Imports

World Imports of Grape Juice (Single Strength)

In 2022, approx. 242K tons of grape juice (single strength) were imported worldwide; dropping by -23.8% compared with the year before. Overall, imports continue to indicate a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure at 373K tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) imports reduced to $187M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 19%. Global imports peaked at $260M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports By Country

Germany was the major importer of grape juice (single strength) in the world, with the volume of imports finishing at 74K tons, which was near 31% of total imports in 2022. Italy (23K tons) took a 9.5% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Austria (8.6%), Israel (8%) and France (7.8%). The Netherlands (10K tons), Spain (7.3K tons), China (6.4K tons), Switzerland (6.3K tons), Greece (6.1K tons) and the UK (5.1K tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to grape juice (single strength) imports into Germany stood at -5.1%. At the same time, Greece (+25.7%), Israel (+18.6%), China (+15.5%), Austria (+10.9%) and Spain (+4.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Greece emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +25.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Switzerland (-1.3%), the Netherlands (-5.8%), the UK (-6.8%), France (-10.4%) and Italy (-12.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Israel (+7 p.p.), Austria (+6.6 p.p.), Greece (+2.3 p.p.), China (+2.2 p.p.) and Spain (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Germany, France and Italy saw its share reduced by -2.9%, -7.4% and -14% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($44M) constitutes the largest market for imported grape juice (single strength) worldwide, comprising 23% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Israel ($14M), with a 7.5% share of global imports. It was followed by France, with a 6.2% share.

In Germany, grape juice (single strength) imports contracted by an average annual rate of -5.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Israel (+16.5% per year) and France (-10.8% per year).

Import Prices By Country

The average grape juice (single strength) import price stood at $771 per ton in 2022, surging by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $821 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,372 per ton), while Greece ($410 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.2%), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.

Exports

World Exports of Grape Juice (Single Strength)

In 2022, approx. 289K tons of grape juice (single strength) were exported worldwide; which is down by -13.3% against 2021. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports hit record highs at 333K tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, grape juice (single strength) exports dropped to $194M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $222M. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the global exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports By Country

Italy was the key exporting country with an export of about 142K tons, which recorded 49% of total exports. Spain (68K tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 23% share, followed by Austria (5%) and South Africa (4.9%). The United States (8.5K tons), Germany (8K tons), Canada (6.2K tons) and Cyprus (5.5K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of grape juice (single strength). At the same time, Cyprus (+12.0%), Canada (+9.4%), Austria (+6.9%), South Africa (+4.8%) and Spain (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Cyprus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +12.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Germany (-7.7%) and the United States (-8.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Spain (+8 p.p.), Austria (+2.5 p.p.) and South Africa (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Germany and the United States saw its share reduced by -3.2% and -4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Italy ($71M) remains the largest grape juice (single strength) supplier worldwide, comprising 36% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($35M), with an 18% share of global exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy amounted to -2.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Spain (+1.5% per year) and the United States (-2.3% per year).

Export Prices By Country

In 2022, the average grape juice (single strength) export price amounted to $672 per ton, picking up by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 17% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $831 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,113 per ton), while Italy ($499 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
