Ferro-Manganese Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023
The average ferro-manganese export price stood at $1,373 per ton in July 2023, with an increase of 9.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 40% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,528 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Italy ($1,528 per ton) and the United States ($1,421 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($1,298 per ton) and France ($1,384 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

The average ferro-manganese import price stood at $1,336 per ton in 2022, declining by -8.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 93% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,465 per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($2,666 per ton), while the price for Zambia ($1,213 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+26.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ferro-manganese exports from South Africa skyrocketed to 199K tons in 2022, jumping by 16% on the year before. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn.
