Eggplant Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average eggplant export price amounted to $1,614 per ton, shrinking by -12% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a mild expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, eggplant export price decreased by -12.0% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 37% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,524 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($2,059 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($1,053 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average eggplant import price amounted to $1,407 per ton, reducing by -6.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 38% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,836 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($3,456 per ton), while the price for Spain ($1,269 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Eggplant Exports in the Netherlands
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of eggplants (aubergines) decreased by -6.2% to 61K tons in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 4.1% against the previous year.
In value terms, eggplant exports fell to $97M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 10%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $100M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Eggplant Imports in the Netherlands
