Eggplant Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average eggplant export price amounted to $732 per ton, with a decrease of -23.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight expansion from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.6% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, eggplant export price decreased by -27.5% against October 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2021 when the average export price increased by 87% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $1,010 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to December 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Singapore.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Singapore amounted to +1.7% per month.
Eggplant Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average eggplant import price stood at $578 per ton in December 2021, jumping by 172% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed prominent growth. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($1,843 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($237 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Eggplant Exports in Malaysia
In 2022, eggplant exports from Malaysia contracted to 7.2K tons, which is down by -6% on the year before. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year.
