Crude Palm Oil Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
The average crude palm oil export price stood at $1,177 per ton in December 2021, surging by 2.9% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5%. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2021 an increase of 12% against the previous month. The export price peaked in December 2021.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were India ($1,229 per ton) and Italy ($1,185 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,086 per ton) and Kenya ($1,089 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Palm Oil Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average crude palm oil import price stood at $1,335 per ton in December 2021, flattening at the previous month. In general, import price indicated a moderate increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, crude palm oil import price decreased by +0.5% against August 2021 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2021 an increase of 25% month-to-month. The import price peaked in December 2021.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($1,348 per ton), while the price for Indonesia stood at $1,317 per ton.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Philippines (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Palm Oil Exports in Malaysia
Crude palm oil exports from Malaysia declined slightly to 4.6M tons in 2022, shrinking by -3% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 5.4% against the previous year.
In value terms, crude palm oil exports fell dramatically to $3.9B in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 69% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $5B, and then declined sharply in the following year.
