Citrus Fruit Price in Belgium (CIF) - 2022
The average citrus fruit import price stood at $1,266 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,393 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($1,815 per ton), while the price for South Africa ($834 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Citrus Fruit Price in Belgium (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average citrus fruit export price amounted to $1,258 per ton, declining by -2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 22%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,406 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($2,454 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($917 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Citrus Fruit Imports in Belgium
In 2022, supplies from abroad of citrus fruits decreased by -5.1% to 219K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 18%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 234K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, citrus fruit imports fell to $277M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $326M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Citrus Fruit Exports in Belgium
For the fourth year in a row, Belgium recorded growth in shipments abroad of citrus fruits, which increased by 0.6% to 31K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, citrus fruit exports declined slightly to $40M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +79.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 63%.
