Chalk Price in Cameroon (CIF) - 2022
The average chalk import price stood at $151 per ton in 2022, surging by 26% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 37%. The import price peaked at $200 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($224 per ton), while the price for Greece ($84 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Jordan (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average chalk export price stood at $3,111 per ton in 2022, falling by -15.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 6.3%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $6,600 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Equatorial Guinea ($2,493 per ton), while the average price for exports to Congo ($778 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Equatorial Guinea (+13.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Chalk Imports in Cameroon
In 2022, overseas purchases of chalks decreased by -25.6% to 5.1K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 130%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 8.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, chalk imports contracted to $772K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +22.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $878K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
