Carrot and Turnip Price in Latvia (CIF) - 2023
The average carrot and turnip import price stood at $641 per ton in September 2023, growing by 5.8% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 47% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,274 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($3,001 per ton), while the price for Poland ($210 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In September 2023, the average carrot and turnip export price amounted to $612 per ton, with an increase of 12% against the previous month. Overall, the export price posted a pronounced expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 37% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,200 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($709 per ton), while the average price for exports to Estonia totaled $577 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+3.1%).

In 2022, carrot and turnip imports into Latvia rose to 10K tons, surging by 1.5% against the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 7.9%.
In value terms, carrot and turnip imports shrank modestly to $6.5M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40%.
