Barley Price in France (FOB) - 2023
The average barley export price stood at $288 per ton in August 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2023 an increase of 10% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $360 per ton. From July 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($371 per ton) and Belgium ($324 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($268 per ton) and the Netherlands ($272 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Barley Price in France (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average barley import price amounted to $288 per ton, growing by 5.3% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a slight curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 37% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $700 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($1,435 per ton), while the price for Germany ($251 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+12.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Barley Exports in France
For the third year in a row, France recorded decline in shipments abroad of barley, which decreased by -14.9% to 5.6M tons in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt setback. The smallest decline of -3.4% was in 2021.
In value terms, barley exports rose rapidly to $1.8B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 24%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
