Barley Price in Denmark (FOB) - 2023
The average barley export price stood at $419 per ton in August 2023, picking up by 25% against the previous month. Over the period from August 2022 to August 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($494 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($300 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Barley Price in Denmark (CIF) - 2023
The average barley import price stood at $265 per ton in August 2023, rising by 5.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 59% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $519 per ton. From October 2022 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($334 per ton), while the price for Germany totaled $258 per ton.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+1.3%).
Barley Exports in Denmark
In 2022, shipments abroad of barley decreased by -34.3% to 629K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 40% against the previous year.
In value terms, barley exports declined markedly to $199M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 61%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $249M, and then plummeted in the following year.
