Banana Price in Ireland (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average banana import price amounted to $834 per ton, shrinking by -5.5% against the previous month. Over the period from October 2022 to October 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2023 an increase of 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $883 per ton in September 2023, and then fell in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($1,412 per ton), while the price for Costa Rica ($674 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average banana export price amounted to $1,149 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,157 per ton in September 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the UK.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the UK amounted to +1.3% per month.
Banana Imports in Ireland
In 2022, imports of bananas into Ireland dropped modestly to 92K tons, standing approx. at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild curtailment. The smallest decline of -0.2% was in 2021.

Banana Exports in Ireland
For the fourth consecutive year, Ireland recorded growth in overseas shipments of bananas, which increased by 28% to 5.2K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +19.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +71.3% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, banana exports surged to $5.2M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +78.5% against 2019 indices.
