Turkey Fig Exports
After four years of growth, shipments abroad of figs decreased by -6.2% to 89K tons in 2023. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 16%. The exports peaked at 95K tons in 2022, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, fig exports expanded notably to $340M (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2013 to 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2023 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country
the United States (15K tons), Germany (14K tons) and France (7.8K tons) were the main destinations of fig exports from Turkey, with a combined 41% share of total exports.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +14.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for fig exported from Turkey were Germany ($59M), the United States ($47M) and France ($34M), with a combined 41% share of total exports. the UK, Italy, Switzerland, Canada and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
Among the main countries of destination, Canada, with a CAGR of +12.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2023, the fig price stood at $3,799 per ton (FOB, Turkey), growing by 18% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 21%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,830 per ton; afterwards, it flattened through to 2023.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($6,379 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,642 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2013 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
